Website privacy
You can browse rates without turning on diagnostics. Your choice does not change what you can use.
Your choice
Optional browser diagnostics stay off until you choose Allow diagnostics. Scrolling, continuing to browse or closing a notice never turns them on.
The home page shows no privacy notice. Nothing goes to BugTape until you click Allow diagnostics, and no choice is counted until you click a choice button. The other pages show a short notice after the page content, just above the footer, until you choose or close it. It never covers what you are reading. If you close it, we don’t show it again in that browser tab, unless your browser blocks storage.
To change your mind at any time, choose Privacy choices in the menu or at the foot of any page, or .
What diagnostics include
If you allow them, BugTape records technical errors, request details, browser and device information, IP addresses received by the service, page addresses and recent interactions such as clicks. Reports help us find and fix faults. They may be reviewed by our team and AI systems through BugTape.
We turn off page replay, console recording and live visitor presence. Strict privacy mode removes URL query strings and fragments, excludes request and response bodies, and scrubs common personal information from error text. It cannot guarantee that every piece of personal information is removed. Please do not put account details or other private information in a problem report.
Browser storage
This website keeps a few choices in your browser. It uses no advertising cookies or advertising trackers.
- Your diagnostics choice, for up to 180 days, whether you allow or decline.
- For this browser tab only: that you closed the notice, or that your browser could not save your choice.
- Whether you keep the menu narrow.
- Whether you chose light or dark mode. It is saved only when you switch, and we set no expiry.
- The same light or dark choice, holding only the word “light” or “dark”, so Analyse at app.ratesonar.com opens in the mode you chose. It is saved only when you switch, in this website or in Analyse, and lasts up to a year after your last switch.
- The column widths and hidden columns of a rate table you changed.
- Only if you allow diagnostics: a session identifier, your last click, and reports waiting to be sent.
Turning diagnostics off
Choose Privacy choices in the menu or at the foot of any page, then Turn diagnostics off. This stops collection on this website and removes RateSonar’s unsent diagnostic reports from this browser where storage access is available. Reports already received by BugTape are not recalled. Other open tabs receive the change; a suspended tab checks it when it resumes.
Counting choices
When you click Allow diagnostics, No thanks or Turn diagnostics off, we add one to a daily total. A total holds only the day, the choice, where you made it (the notice or Privacy choices) and a broad region (Australia, the EU and EEA, UK, other or unknown). Our server works out the region from your connection at that moment. We don’t store your IP address, browser details or any identifier in the totals, so the totals can’t identify you. We count choices only when your device is set to an Australian time zone. Closing a notice is not a choice and is never counted. The request that adds to a total appears in our API request logs, described below.
Running the service
Cloudflare hosts this website and our API. It processes every request, including your IP address, to deliver and protect them. On every page, Cloudflare also currently runs Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookieless measurement of page views and page speed. It runs whatever you choose for diagnostics.
Our API request logs keep request details, including IP addresses and the search words you type, for up to 7 days. When you type in the search box, our server sends your search words to an outside language service to work out what you’re looking for. Ask answers come straight from the recorded rates; your question is not sent to any outside service. Our separate server checks monitor bank-data collection, backups and service failures. Your diagnostics choice does not turn those checks off.
The search box also writes your search words into the page address (for example ratesonar.com/?q=ing+savings), so you can share a search. When anyone opens such a link, the page runs that search: Cloudflare receives the full address, and the words go to our server and the outside language service as described above. Please do not put private information in a search.
If you join a waitlist, we keep your email and the plan you chose so we can contact you about it, and send a copy to our team chat.
This page covers the public RateSonar website. Analyse, our separate app at app.ratesonar.com, works differently: it starts BugTape as soon as it loads and does not ask first. There BugTape records errors, network requests, console messages, clicks and a recording of page changes with the text masked. While Analyse is open it also tells BugTape that a visitor is present, and it shows a button for reporting a problem. Strict privacy mode, described above, applies there too. Signing into Analyse involves the information you submit there.
