About the data

RateSonar keeps a record of the rates banks advertise. We collect them from public websites and product feeds, so you can compare banks and look back at earlier rates.

RateSonar is not affiliated with any lender and has no sponsorships, so every rate check is completely independent.

How to use it

  1. Compare home loans, savings accounts or term deposits. You don’t need an account to browse.
  2. Filter the results, then open a product to check its rate tiers and conditions. Follow the lender link for its published terms.
  3. Choose a bank in Rate history to see the rates we recorded. Check the dates covered by the chart.
  4. Compare banks on one chart: search “CBA vs Westpac chart” on the home page.
  5. Use a connection for AI assistants, or the HTTP API, to work with the data in your own tools. Public calls need no sign-up and no key.
  6. Read how this record differs from Canstar, Finder and RateCity.

You can also read about corrections to the source data.

Where the rates come from

  • Bank websites. We check selected home-loan and savings pages daily.
  • Public product feeds. These are the public product data banks publish. We collect these feeds through the day.

How to read the data

  • Check the date. The recorded date tells you when we recorded a rate. The lender may have changed it since then.
  • Read the conditions. Open Rate details or Structure for the rate tiers and conditions in the source data. Check the lender’s website before applying.
  • Check the chart labels. A day with no new record repeats the last rate. The chart draws that repeat as a dashed line. It is not a new record.
  • A calculated line. A median, or a bank’s lowest rate each day, is calculated from several records, not one bank’s quote.
  • Allow for different coverage. Dates vary by bank and product. We do not estimate a rate we never recorded.
  • Keep market averages separate. RBA figures provide monthly market context. They are not an offer from a particular bank.

Connect an AI assistant

A connection for AI assistants uses this configuration. Add it to a compatible client to connect to https://api.ratesonar.com:

{ "mcpServers": { "ratesonar": { "url": "https://api.ratesonar.com" } } }

For exact tiers on a date, call rate_details with institutionId, productId and asOf. Always cite the recorded date. See the MCP tools and HTTP examples.
